This is the most basic and simple civil registration at the Public Service Hall, conducted in a common hall and always on weekdays.

It is a purely formal procedure to quickly obtain a marriage certificate without additional options. The registration takes place at one of many desks, without photography, without ceremonial speeches, etc. It is similar to visiting an administrative office to obtain a passport, for example. You may wear either casual or formal clothing.

There is no fixed appointment time — everything depends on the workload of the government office. However, the Public Service Hall always sends a notification about the readiness of the marriage certificate on the same day, and in the meantime, you can enjoy a walk around the city.

Marriage Registration With a Ceremony

This is a ceremonial marriage registration held in Tbilisi registry offices, available on both weekdays and weekends.

You can choose a specific time slot for your wedding. During the ceremony, you can take photos and videos, exchange rings to the registrar’s formal speech, wear wedding attire, invite your close ones, and more. The entire process takes about 30 minutes.

Please also note the working days of the registry offices if you would like your wedding to take place at a specific location.

As a rule, requirements regarding the validity period of documents are set by the receiving party, so it is advisable to clarify them locally. Georgian civil status documents are issued for unlimited use. The only exception is the certificate of no criminal record, which must be renewed every three months to reflect up-to-date information.

When duplicates of documents from Georgia are required

If you are applying for a pension or citizenship abroad, getting married, registering a newborn child, receiving an inheritance, opening a bank account, or applying for a job, you may need up-to-date copies of various documents. They are required to complete a number of administrative and bureaucratic procedures.

Types of documents that may be requested from Georgia include:

• birth certificates;
• marriage certificates (registration or dissolution);
• certificates of name or surname change;
• death certificates;
• certificates confirming marriage registration;

Since these documents contain personal data, their legal retrieval is possible only upon request of the document holder or an authorized representative. Government authorities issuing duplicate documents in Georgia

Duplicates of civil registry documents are issued by Public Service Halls (branches of the Civil Registry Agency of the Ministry of Justice). Certificates of no criminal record are issued there as well or by the Service Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Apostille certification of copies is performed by the Ministry of Justice.

Apostille and consular legalization of documents from Georgia

The Hague Convention of 1961 established a list of countries in which documents are legalized under a simplified procedure. For recognition, it is sufficient to notarize a copy of the official document. An apostille confirms the authenticity of the document’s form, content, and signature.
